Located about 10 km northwest of ‘Ajlun city, the site is named “Elias” after Elijah the Prophet Elias (Elijah), who lived between the 10th and 9th centuries BC in the Gilaad Mountains. It is one of the recognized Christian pilgrimage sites. Some of the most significant archaeological features at the site include: the Upper Church (Main Church), the Lower Church (Smaller Church), the wine press, and the tomb.
